I found these quotes while reading To the Work by D.L. Moody. This book was writing in 1884.
Why, the people of this land have been almost preached to death. What we want is to preach more sermons with our hands and feet--to carry the Gospel to the people by acts of kindness.
You are never going to reach men and do them good in that way [scolding them]; or by putting yourself on a high platform; you have to come down to them and enter into their sorrows and troubles.
Ouch. If that held true 126 years ago, it certainly holds true today. If he thought then that the people were preached to death, what are they now? If then it was imperative that we preach more sermons with our hands and feet, how imperative is it now?
This is a reminder to someone who desires to preach.
