A Sermon on the Sabbath
Deconstruction is good when we deconstruct the rules we think are needed for God to love us. Deconstruct to find Jesus who is the blessing behind the rules.
Rules do more harm than good.
When rules are demanded of you (internally or externally), you resent the rules and you resent the One the rules are supposed to represent.
Deconstructing your faith is good when your faith is built upon rules and “I have to’s” and “I should’s”.
Then, after deconstructing the rules, you can reconstruct a life built upon a Hear & Follow relationship with Jesus where God’s Community is a Tool God gives you to Hear & Follow Jesus closer.
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath.
He wants you to trust him for your provision, accomplishments and success. Rest is a gift he gives to you so that you do not trust in yourself for external success.
Jesus is your Rest. He is Lord of your Sabbath. He will give you rest in ways you’ll never be able to find on your own.
Don’t follow rules to find rest. Don’t follow rules to find external success and provision.
Find Jesus and Hear & Follow him to a life that works hard. But works hard to find rest in Jesus by Hearing & Following him. So Jesus becomes your blessing, not the provision, accomplishment and success work brings.
God gives the Tool of Community to help you Hear & Follow Jesus.
Gathering is for you. When we gather, this is an opportunity to Hear & Follow Jesus through Community. It’s also an opportunity for you to give into others so they can Hear & Follow Jesus more closely.
And Community is so we can show those far from God the Jesus who wants a relationship with them.
You have a part to play. The church is not our building or our staff. The church is everyone who Hears & Follows Jesus. And the church is here to advance his Kingdom into lives around us and the ends of the world.
