Enjoy Yourself
The religious have a measure of success of being more religiously serious than others. If this is your metric, you need a new measuring stick.
And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.”
Luke 5:33
We are more religiously serious than you.
Even John the Baptist’s disciples are more religiously serious than you.
Do you pride yourself in being religiously serious?
Do you pride yourself in being more religiously serious than others?
This is the problem with Sinner’s Parties. You cannot be religiously serious and attend them.
And for the religious leaders, they could not wrap their heads around how Jesus could claim to be God, and yet go to a party with such people in attendance.
And they couldn’t wrap their minds around how Jesus and his disciples could…
Eat, drink and be merry with Levi and his buddies.
If you find your success in being more religiously serious than others, you have the wrong measuring stick.
Jesus gives you permission to enjoy yourself.
He gives you permission to enjoy yourself in the presence of those far from him.
So that you can show them the One who saves, forgives and heals.
