Givers Are Top Performers
Adam Grant's book, Give and Take, is a marketplace study showing God's design for us to give up our lives is the best way to live.
And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”
Luke 4:8
Jesus had the opportunity to take what was rightfully his right then and there.
Does this sound familiar?
In order to get ahead in life, in business, in sports, we have to take what’s ours.
Serving others is what leaves you behind.
At least, this is the vision we’re told.
Let me recommend to you, Give and Take by Adam Grant.
This is a marketplace book that shows the worst performers and the best performers are givers.
Takers and matchers are more likely to land in the middle of the performance pack.
If you serve to get something in return, you are a matcher. So you cannot game the system. Serve to purely serve.
This is why givers are the lowest performers…for a time. Because “those who give first are often best positioned for success later” (pg. 9, Kindle version).
Every time we interact with another person at work, we have a choice to make: do we try to claim as much value as we can, or contribute value without worrying about what we receive in return?
Give and Take, page 4 (Kindle version)
God designed life. He wants us to always be at our best. When we Hear & Follow him, he will give Life in our soul that will flow through us into the world around us.
When you worship, God fills you.
When God fills you, you have the strength to serve others.
And as you trust him with how to live your life, he uses your ability to lay your life down for the sake of others to then out perform others.
Which in the end gives him glory because he is the one making your life possible.
