Hey Levi, Follow Me
What would the religious expect as Jesus, who claimed to be God, walked up to Levi? Jesus did the opposite.
After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth.
Luke 5:27
Jesus just claimed to be God.
Jesus led the crowd out and came across a tax collector.
The worst of the worst.
Modern day equivalent?
The Wolf of Wall Street.
Jesus just claimed to be God.
What does God do to people like this?
Well, to the religious, they expected lightning bolts. “Oh boy,” they’d think, “this guy is going to get it. God would never forgive this guy’s sins. Sure, the paralytic is one thing. But this guy…never.”
I think the same sly smile came up on Jesus’ face as they walked towards the tax collector.
Because of the next words out of his mouth.
“Hey Levi, follow me…”
