Jesus Is the Rest From Our Works
Don't lead your people to give themselves up for the Church. Jesus alone accomplished this work. Lead them to find the One who allows them rest from their works.
And he said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
Luke 6:5
Have you thought about this…
When you ask someone to serve at a worship service, you’re asking them to give up rest.
They work 5 days a week.
Have family activities on Saturday.
Then come work for the church for free on Sunday.
Maybe you still ask them to serve Sunday night.
Maybe you ask them to serve Wednesday.
Then you preach “follow the Sabbath.” And they’re sinning if they don’t follow the Sabbath. When what you ask of them for the sake of your church is not allowing them to follow the Sabbath.
The point isn’t to not ask people to serve. You need people to throw Sinner’s Parties.
The point is to work through these dilemmas. To not require heavy burdens people cannot bear.
Then make them feel guilty for not bearing the burden you put on them…not God.
Because Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. He is Lord of rest and provision and blessing.
Remember, Jesus leads us to give up our life for him not his Church. He’s already done the work of giving up his life for his Church.
Jesus is the Blessing of the Sabbath.
Lead your church to find their rest in him because he is the rest from our works.
Don’t require your church to do the work only Jesus can bear.
