Preaching New Wine
Lead your church to see themselves as people who celebrate his presence and show those far from God that he always desired relationship over rules.
Life Point: God wants your church to show those far from God he always desired relationship over rules.
Religious seriousness is not success.
The religious leaders found success in their religious seriousness. They compared themselves to Jesus.
But this is not Jesus’ metric of success.
Are you coming close to the bridegroom?
His Kingdom is compared to a wedding feast. You don’t bring somber into a wedding feast. You bring celebration.
Be a church whose metric will be how well are you showing the celebration of Jesus to those far from him.
New thinking is “God came to me.”
Old thinking is I get to God.
Lead your church to will be a new thinking church.
This means we must pattern ourselves after the way of Jesus. You will be a people who throw Sinner’s Parties so that your sinner buddies will know Jesus came close to you…and is close to them.
New thinking is original thinking.
The last phrase of Jesus is a bit odd. He talked about new wine and new wineskins then says, “No one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”
Seems like a contradiction.
What Jesus meant is the new thinking, the new wine skins, is actually what God was doing from the very beginning.
He was, is and will always be Immanuel.
Not just at Christmas, but all day, everyday.
Lead your people to see…
Lead those far from God to see…
God is always Immanuel.
Refuse to be a church who has “religiously serious” as a metric. Be a church who enjoys the presence of God and leads those far from him to see he is always close and always wanted relationship.
