The Tool of Community
Guilt trips do more harm than good. Building irresistible environments will do good and save lives.
And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?”
Luke 6:9
God gives to us the Tool of Community to better Hear & Follow him.
The Sunday service is not about following a rule. It’s not about resting (have you ever tried to get 4 young kids to church? That’s not rest). It’s certainly not about helping you feel good about yourself because the numbers are up.
The Sunday service is a Tool. A Tool to Hear & Follow Jesus together as a people.
And a Tool to help those far from Jesus Hear & Follow him for the first time.
Demanding people to hear & follow rules through the Sunday service destroys life. It does more harm than good.
Creating irresistible environments will do good and save lives through the Tool of God’s Community.
When you feel like you need to create rules and demand people be in attendance (while using verses to do so), you’ve lost.
There are better ways to invest your time.
Invest your time into building an environment where people want to come…
They want to come to Hear what Jesus has to say through worship with others.
They want to come to Hear what Jesus has to say through his Word.
They want to come to Hear what Jesus has to say through prayer with others.
They want to come to see what this Jesus is all about.
They want to come so they can Follow more closely.
Then people will come, not because of a guilt trip, but because Hearing & Following Jesus through Community is better than anything else they could be doing.
And when they have other commitments, they do so with the One who is the Blessing and they go on mission to advance his Kingdom.
